Our Tips For Organising Your Self Storage Unit

With many of us accumulating much more ‘stuff’ in our lives than we can actually handle, the process of renting a self-contained storage unit has become a trend in recent years. It’s an easy and relatively inexpensive way to get possessions out of the way without actually having to throw them out, but the longer you have a unit, the more likely it is to start getting out of control on the neatness front.

Here at Grice Storage Systems, we specialise in providing self-storage units for people who need them, and something we like to do alongside that is making sure that all of our customers know how best to keep their unit looking tidy. Here are some of the best tips for organising your self-storage units.

Same Sized Boxes

For smaller, moveable items, it is always a good idea to use a set of same sized boxes for everything. The logic behind this is that when they are full and heavy, these boxes will be able to be stacked in a much neater and safer fashion than if you had a bunch of containers that were different heights and different widths.

    Identify Important Items

When planning what to put where, write a list of the items in the unit that you think you might need to retrieve at an earlier point, and when you have your list, you will be able to make sure that those particular items have a place at the front of the unit where they are easily accessible.

      Make Labels

Invest in a label maker and go to town on all of the boxes that you are putting in your storage unit. When the area is full and you can’t distinguish one box from another, the presence of a label telling you exactly what is inside can save you a lot of hassle.

        Master Contents List

As you are filling up your unit, make a list of everything that is going in, and you will be able to refer back to it to solve any issues that you might have with missing items in the future.
